New York native and daughter of affluent Chinese immigrants, Vera Wang,
with unfulfilled dreams of an Olympic figure skater, studied in Paris
and the United States. Following university, she pursued a long stint as
a Vogue editor and then as design director for icon Ralph Lauren.
The
Vera Wang signature fashions—specializing in evening and wedding
gowns—opened to celebrated fans in 1990 after the budding designer’s
frustration with a failed search for her own wedding gown. Wang sketched
and commissioned her own design.
Soon, a full-circle dream realized,
Vera Wang was designing Olympic figure-skating costumes. She expanded
her fashion empire to include fragrances like Princess, Bouquet, Truly
Pink and Sheer Veil, capturing the flowery scents that permeate her
romantic expressions of style and demure elegance.
